It may not be baseball season, but two of Major League Baseball's official team Twitter accounts are in mid-season form.
The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks are set to renew their rivalry in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, and the MLB teams in those cities have decided to make it a little more interesting.
Here's how it started on Friday afternoon.
From First Pitch to NFC Championship, Kap is the man #SFUnite … http://t.co/9L7RppjK61 #QuestForSix
— San Francisco Giants (@SFGiants) January 17, 2014
It didn't take long for a certain team to fire back.
.@SFGiants Our guy has been throwing strikes since the offseason. http://t.co/vy415kQIjK #GoHawks
— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) January 17, 2014
Then things escalated to the "oh snap" stage.
. @Mariners he had a longer offseason last season.
— San Francisco Giants (@SFGiants) January 17, 2014
The Mariners were clearly shaken by that retort and didn't respond, leading the Giants to suggest a wager.
.@Mariners check his road playoff record and then let us know if you want to make this game a bit more interesting #SFUnite
— San Francisco Giants (@SFGiants) January 17, 2014
That got the Mariners' attention and they accepted, bringing the Giants' mascot into the fray.
.@SFGiants We’re in. WHEN we win, you have to post a photo of Lou Seal going #FeastMode on some Skittles. #GoHawks
— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) January 17, 2014
Lou Seal was not amused.
@Mariners That's @LouSeal01 for your information…If you want me in your little wager you might want to clue me in first. BTW, IT'S ON!
— Luigi Francisco Seal (@LouSeal01) January 18, 2014j
The Mariners apologized.
@LouSeal01 Our apologies, Luigi. Hope you're preparing to bathe in Skittles.
— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) January 18, 2014
Meanwhile, the Giants came up with the other side of the bet.
.@Mariners when we win, post a pic of Mariner Moose #Kaepernicking #SFUnite #SaveYourSkittles pic.twitter.com/hf8E4p9S7H
— San Francisco Giants (@SFGiants) January 17, 2014
We have a deal.
.@SFGiants It's on. #TasteTheRainbow #GoHawks pic.twitter.com/zDsFVhS363
— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) January 17, 2014
Lou Seal accepted the Mariners' apology and had a chirp of his own directed at his mascot adversary.
@Mariners Haha! We shall see… Tell my boy the Moose to break out his Chapstick & get ready to self smooch!
— Luigi Francisco Seal (@LouSeal01) January 18, 2014
And he wasn't done.
I don't even like Skittles…I'm an M&M's guy myself. Peanut. Ooh, & Reese's Pieces (black n orange)… @SFGiants @Mariners #MooseSelfSmooch
— Luigi Francisco Seal (@LouSeal01) January 18, 2014
With that, the NFC Championship Game stakes were raised. The game has more riding on it now than we could have ever expected. Will Lou Seal be forced to eat candy he doesn't like, or will Mariner Moose have to kiss his own arm?
We can't wait to find out.
