Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas has done a pretty decent job in his first year as an MLB analyst for Fox Sports 1. But I’ve noticed something about Thomas in his retirement that I never noticed during his pro career – the man is full of smiles and seems incredibly joyful.
It seems like every one of his tweets has multiple exclamation points in it. Check out this small sampling from the last week.

Even when Thomas makes a mistake, he owns up to it with…well, enthusiasm.

And then, there’s Thomas on TV with Fox Sports 1, where…well, it seems like he’s always smiling.
Here he is at Game 1 of the World Series.
And after Game 2…
After Game 1 of the NLCS…
After Game 5 of the NLCS…
I think you get my point.
Keep in mind, I’m not saying I have a problem with this at all – too often in sports media, we deal with analysts feeling the need to tear everyone down and be negative all the time. Seeing Thomas break down a baseball game with a huge smile on his face and genial tone to his voice is an awesome change of pace from what we see on a near daily basis. It’s a trait he shares with fellow Fox MLB analyst Gabe Kapler, who is also a ridiculously upbeat guy.
After years of dealing with monotony, I’m all about the positivity and happiness we’re seeing from Thomas. Bring on the smiles!
