On Tuesday, ESPN's Fran Fraschilla was a guest on "The Drive" w/ Danny Parkins and Carrington Harrison on 610 Sports radio in Kansas City. During the interview, Fraschilla talked about his ESPN colleague Brent Musburger, including his gambling habit and his former career as an umpire for Tim McCarver. His segment begins at the 3:30 mark.

When asked about Musburger's Super Bowl bets:

"We try to keep that with double entendres. We try to not let people know, but of course they do know. But Brent's at the stage of his career that I don't think he cares what anyone thinks. He just wants to have a great time, and quite frankly, at his age he absolutely loves what he's doing and I'm just thrilled to be along for the ride on these Mondays."

When asked if Musburger loves gambling as much as it seems:

"I don't think it's as big a deal as he makes it out to be, but he has a lot of friends in that world, let's put it that way."

And then, Fraschilla told a story about Musburger serving as an umpire for Tim McCarver's first professional game.

"The first baseball game Tim McCarver ever played as a professional player in the minor leagues in Illinois coming out of Memphis, the umpire behind home plate was Brent Musburger. Now that's in the late '50s, he was a student at Northwestern trying to make a little extra money.

On working with Musburger every week:

"And Brent has seen it all, done it all in sports. His history, his broadcast history is absolutely incredible, and to be around him every week is like being around a sports encyclopedia. We just have a great time, and he doesn't take himself too seriously, and I think that's the bottom line."

Talk about something you never expected to hear… Brent Musburger, umpire for Tim McCarver's first professional game.
