Derek Jeter

Just when you thought you escaped the chaos of Derek Jeter’s retirement, Fox Sports 1 is dragging you back in for one last look at the Yankees captain’s final game at Yankee Stadium.

Derek Jeter: A Night 2 Remember is described as “a cinematic journey through his final home game as a New York Yankee”, and is produced by MLB Productions and Fox Sports Originals. It will premiere tonight at 7:30 PM. The feature will combine the YES Network and MLB Network coverage of Jeter’s final game to create what is being called a mini-documentary, spotlighting the emotional evening in the Bronx.

While I have no doubt this will be well done considering the production companies behind it (the Mariano Rivera documentary Fox aired last year was sublime), we’re reaching the overkill stages of the Jeter farewell. But without the Yankees in the playoffs this October, focusing on Jeter’s goodbye is the only way that networks can keep them in the spotlight. At this point, I’m not even surprised, so the best thing we can do is just consume the work, praise the quality of it, and cross our fingers that this is the end.

I’m just hoping there’s not a Jeter 30 For 30 next fall. Please ESPN, don’t forsake me.
