When we clamored for more “original, can’t miss” programming on Fox Sports 1, I don’t think this is what we had in mind.

Fantasy Football Uncensored will debut on Fox Sports 1 on noon this Saturday, and re-air on Fox at 2 PM on Sunday. It stars Jay Glazer as the host and commissioner of a fantasy football league featuring David Spade and Katie Nolan among others.

The show is described as “a weekly battle of football knowledge and smack talk” and calling the league participants “diverse” may be an understatement. Spade is joined by fellow comedians Nick Swardson and Brody Stevens, Rascal Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus, UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell, actor Jerry Ferrara, incredibly underused Fox Sports 1 asset Katie Nolan, and a generic “NFL on Fox” team manned by Brian Urlacher, John Lynch, Ronde Barber, and David Diehl.

Football fans have made their displeasure with Rob Riggle and Frank Caliendo well-known, so they probably won’t take too kindly to the comedic aspect of this. I’m not sure any NFL fan was really clamoring for David Spade’s opinions on who to use in their flex spot.

Much like Crowd Goes Wild, perhaps this eccentric cast will do the unexpected and come together and provide some laughs and some good insights, but it may be a struggle to find viewers. At least FS1 should get credit for doing something markedly different from ESPN, something a lot of us have been asking for.

However, without making too many judgments about this new show before it even airs, I’m wondering just who the target market is here. Fantasy diehards want actual news and information about how to micromanage their rosters, so they probably wouldn’t be interested. People who want to laugh at fantasy football will just watch The League on FXX instead.

Maybe I’m just being a pessimist for no reason, but there really doesn’t seem to be much of a hook here aside from “watch famous people kind of pay attention to fantasy football” which isn’t all that appealing at the outset.
