Major news events usually lead to major social media fails. The Ferguson announcement resulted in a couple tweets from the Boston Red Sox and Peter King that couldn’t have been worse in the timing department.

King inexplicably used the word “indictment” to talk about the Jets’ offense and special teams right when the announcement about Darren Wilson not being indicted in the death of Michael Brown was made:

Meanwhile, the Red Sox asked everyone how their night was going as we all waited for the announcement after a big free agency day for the team.

These tweets aren’t on the same scale as say a St. Louis bar trying to market itself by making riot jokes, but they are great examples for any future social media managers of making sure you know what current events are happening before you tweet.
