Who needs more football? Apparently, ESPN does. The Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) has agreed to a deal with ESPN to air their games on ESPN3 this season. According to SI, the deal was spurred by the NFL wanting to have FXFL game film to evaluate. There is no official affiliation between the NFL and the FXFL, but the league aspires to be an official minor league for the NFL.

So, what is the FXFL? The league hasn’t played a game yet, but has four teams, all of which are training in Florida. Starting on October 8th, those four teams are going to begin playing games in Boston, Brooklyn, and Omaha. Nearly every player in the league was either draft or recently cut by an NFL team, truly making it a league of castoffs and lesser-known players.

The games won’t compete with NFL games – they’re going to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. That’s right, ESPN’s family of networks will now be airing live football every day of the week, with Sunday hosting the CFL along with numerous NFL studio shows. We simply can’t escape the pigskin, no matter what we try to do..
