It’s a bummer to share the news that the beloved voice of the NHL Doc Emrick will miss Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final due to a death in the family.  NBC made the announcement late last night.  In Doc’s place, Kenny Albert will call the game alongside Eddie Olczyk and Pierre McGuire.

Albert called the Western Conference Finals for the first time for NBCSN this year and did a great job handling the assignment.  His work in the last round was even more impressive considering he was also calling the Eastern Conference Finals on radio for the New York Rangers and criss-crossing the country.

Doc Emrick has called every game of the last 8 Stanley Cup Final series for NBC and its cable networks since the network took over NHL rights in 2006.

NBC says Emrick will return for Game 2 of the series in Los Angeles.  We wish the best for him and his family.
