Chris Webber wants to follow in the footsteps of former ESPN broadcaster Magic Johnson and buy a chunk of a sports team. But unlike Johnson, Webber is sticking to basketball, and is reportedly targeting the Atlanta Hawks. He posted a note on Twitter Thursday morning about his ownership interests.

The Hawks have come under fire in recent months following racist comments made by majority owner Bruce Levenson, who announced last month that he would be selling his share of the team, and GM Danny Ferry. Several NBA teams have seen their ownership change hands in recent years, most notably the Los Angeles Clippers. Quite a few players have minority ownership of teams, including Webber’s fellow TNT NBA analyst Shaquille O’Neal (Kings).

I don’t necessarily think we have much to worry about in terms of a potential bias from Webber, but it’s still going to come up. Everything he says about the Hawks, either positive or negative, will be criticized as being biased in one direction or another. It would be interesting to see whether or not that effects the assignments TNT gives him this upcoming season.
