Jay Bilas’ Twitter page is one of the best in sports because of his mix of humor and biting commentary calling out the NCAA. But it’s unique in another regard – Bilas didn’t follow anybody. When I asked him about this on an AA Podcast not too long ago, Bilas said he would begin following someone if it was for charity or for a good cause.
Well, it finally happened. Jay Bilas is now following someone on Twitter, and it’s not who you would expect.
That person is 8 year old Lacey Holsworth, a cancer patient and Michigan State fan who has befriended star fowrard Adreian Payne. Their relationship is one of the most inspiring, heartwarming things you’ll ever encounter in collegiate athletics. Payne brought Holsworth on the floor to celebrate his senior night and had her help him cut down the nets after winning the Big Ten Championship Game.
Lacey had a seizure Tuesday but a message was posted on Instagram asking for continued thoughts and prayers and exclaiming excitement for Payne’s 41 point performance in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament.
She also posted this on Twitter after Bilas began following her.
I think it’s safe to say Bilas couldn’t have made a better choice.
