When I was in New York City to do a profile on CBS Sports Network's That Other Pregame Show in November, I came out with a very positive view of the show. In particular, I was really pleased with the developement of analyst and former Jets linebacker Bart Scott. In particular, I noted his ability to both bring energetic commentary and provide an analytical view of the NFL.

I interviewed CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus afterwards, and showed that I was clearly not alone when it came to Scott: "I think he's a contemporary voice," McManus said. "For a guy who's only been doing it for a couple of months, he's really, really good and gives that recently retired from football perspective."

In retrospect, it seems almost too obvious that Scott was being groomed for bigger things. CBS Sports announced on Monday that he would join The NFL Today on CBS. He will be part of a crew that includes returnees James Brown, Bill Cowher and Boomer Esiason and fellow newcomer Tony Gonzalez.

“Bart joining The NFL Today is a natural progression from his outstanding work during his first season on TOPS,” said McManus in a press release. “Bart brings a dynamic personality and unique perspective as a recently retired player providing strong opinions on all the hot-button issues on a weekly basis. We are confident he will continue to bring that perspective and those opinions to The NFL Today.”

Scott will also contribute to Inside the NFL, and still do weekly segments on TOPS. No word from CBS on a replacement for Scott at That Other Pregame Show
