Mike Francesa

When you host a sports talk radio show for several hours every weekday, things are bound to go off the rails every now and again.  On Wednesday, Mike Francesa didn’t just go off the rails – he went off the map completely.

Francesa took a call on Daniel Murphy of the Mets taking paternity leave to be with his wife and newborn son.  Believe it or not, there are truly some things more important than sports – the birth of your son is one of them.  And although the idea of paternity leave is commonplace in society, word hasn’t gotten to Mike Francesa yet… (via @WFANAudio)

This is certainly less entertaining than his random rant on golf from a few weeks ago, but definitely more peculiar.  And the incredible thing is, Francesa wasn’t even the only WFAN personality to rip Murphy for taking a paternity leave longer than holding his new son for 30 seconds.  In the morning, Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton did the same thing and went even further than Francesa with the “get your @$$ back to work” faux machismo…

Can you believe the nerve of that guy?  Putting his family ahead of a baseball game for more than 24 hours!  That’s women’s work!  If only we could get a REAL MAN to teach Daniel Murphy a lesson about how the world is really supposed to work.

It’s nice to see we’ve opened ourselves to another week of “testosterone-fueled sports talk” meets “real life.”  Just replace “paternity leave” with “bullying” and I think I’ve seen this movie before.
