If you’re a regular to our site, over the last week you may have noticed a change as we’ve implemented Bloguin’s new Locker feature on the site. What is The Locker you ask?

We could drop in a lot of buzzwords to describe it like “platform”, “microblog”, “viral content sharing hub”, “curated social media”, and so on. It’s really a tool for us to share more content with you all as well as focus on original content and stories that deserve some more thorough analysis and research.

If you go behind the scenes of how this group works together (and I’m guessing any blog with a large staff), we kick around dozens of ideas a day in addition to a lively output of internal snark. Often we have a lot of things we found interesting that we just didn’t have the time, resources, or motivation to turn into a story. Some we did end up posting knowing it was either a big story or one that we knew would move the needle. Often it was a bit of chore to add much to a topic or piece of media in question. Some things just speak for themselves.

A lot of these stories we think you’d be interested in regardless and with that in mind we have The Locker. This is where we’ll put a lot of things like videos, tweets, excerpts to external stories, GIFs, etc. We won’t spend much time on these stories and we don’t expect you to either. This allows us to skip the whole charade that most of the internet has fallen victim to where anything quick and funny can move the needle is assigned to a writer who racks their brain trying to add a couple of paragraphs while cognizant that this viral piece of content has to get out the door asap.

We’ve added a tag “The Locker” for all tweets for Locker content so you’ll have an idea that you’re not going to get 5,000 words from Steve Lepore, Matt Yoder, or myself before you click on it.

Basically, the real booze is in the main content column, the light beer is on the siderail. Got it? Feel free to drink both.

In other news, Steve Lepore, Joe Lucia, and Ken Fang have been a huge help to the site and with that in mind, they’ve earned the titles of Associate Editors. All three have helped tremendously round out the voice of Awful Announcing and also in holding down the fort when Matt and myself are doing normal person like things. A much deserved thank you to all three and the rest of our great staff.

That’s it. Good talk everyone. We’ll see you out there.
