If you’ve followed soccer or even just the movement for acceptance of LGBTQ athletes in sports in recent years, you may be familiar with the story of Robbie Rogers. Rogers, who came up in MLS with the Columbus Crew and eventually made it as far as Leeds United in the English Championship, came out in May of 2013. Following a brief retirement, Rogers returned to soccer, and to MLS, where he remains a mainstay with the LA Galaxy.

Rogers’ story is about to made into a pilot for a sitcom. ABC will make the single-camera pilot, which will feature both family and workplace settings to tell Rogers’ life story, which was optioned for television by Universal back in July. The show is tentatively titled Men in Shorts, which makes us wonder if there’s a chance for a Men in Blazers crossover. Please, ABC, make this happen.

Jordin Nardino (Desperate Housewives, Smash, Gilmore Girls) and Claudio Lonow (Less than Perfect, The War at Home) will write the pilot. Storyline Entertainment, which produces the Oscar telecast, are behind the show. Rogers himself is listed as a producer, so it will be interesting to see how they play with his life story to turn it into an interesting pilot, if we ever even see it at all.
