Craig James lasted one week at Fox Sports Southwest. Originally, the reasons were unclear. But now, it appears that the reason stems from his anti-gay comments when he was running for a Senate seat and not his not being good at television and orchestrated smear campaigns.
Via the Dallas Morning News:
Recall James resigned from ESPN in 2011 to enter the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat that ultimately went to Ted Cruz. During the campaign James took a strong anti-gay stance. “We just asked ourselves how Craig’s statements would play in our human resources department,” said a Fox spokesman. “He couldn’t say those things here.”
That's all well and good, but it's baffling that FSSW would have even hired him to begin with, considering those statments were made more than a year ago. It's not like he made them during his first and only week on his new job. Whoever Fox is using as its fact checker needs to step up a bit. We appreciate that the network doesn't want to employ a person with anti-gay views, but this wouldn't have been an issue to begin with if they'd done their due dilligence.
