It's been too long since we had an Aussie Rules clip at AA, but thankfully this weekend delivered one of the more memorable comebacks in AFL history. 10-1 Geelong met the 3-8 Brisbane Lions at The Gabba and were on their way to an expected comfortable victory. The Cats led by 52 points late in the third quarter, but the Lions scratched and clawed their way back. Thanks to some accurate kicks at goal and a few fortunate bounces (check Steve Johnson's shank off the umpire for a Brisbane goal at the 1:00 mark), the Lions made it all the way back to tie the score at 97.
However, they still trailed by a point after Tom Hawkins' behind with a minute to play. Brisbane went the length of the field in 20 seconds with Ashley McGrath taking a mark in range just before the final siren. McGrath kicked the dramatic game winner in his 200th game in what commentator Anthony Hudson called "The Miracle on Grass." It was the 8th largest comeback in AFL history and the largest in club history. Just another example of why Aussie Rules is one of the great games on the planet.
