Red Sox and Rays do battle on Twitter

I often wonder how team smack talk worked before social media. Were insults exchanged via fax? Carrier pigeon? It seems we can't go a day without some athlete, writer, team, or celebrity going off on Twitter about something or someone. Sometimes it esclates to the deletion of an account, and other times it puts certain networks in their place

Well, yesterday, we again saw what happens when teams make fun of each other in that harmlessly petty way that social media managers use to try to one-up each other after the Rays beat the Red Sox to pass them in the standings…

Ouch. That's quite the catty snipe back by whoever is running the Red Sox account. But this really isn't about game attendance, it's just another day of playing the adult version of "I know you are but what am I" through social media managers.

Without Twitter we would be lacking not only breaking news, but shallow entertainment. To quote some of my 8th grade yearbook signatures: never change.
