Remember that crazy story from earlier this week where two basketball analysts in Chicago got in a fight after debating a topic on air? After taking a swing at colleague Tim Doyle, CSN Chicago basketball analyst Kendall Gill was suspended for the rest of the season by the station today.  WBBM's Ryan Baker tweeted about Gill's punishment and CBS Chicago has reported it as well.  (Note: CBS initially had Gill had as fired according to "various reports" and tweets from Gail Fischer sure made it seem like Gill had been canned.)

Gill was initially suspended after the fight while the network underwent an investigation and depending on how long the Bulls season goes, this punishment could last a couple months.  Gill was upset after Doyle criticized his analysis regarding a controversial ending in a Bulls game earlier this week.  The argument then became physical with Gill reportedly throwing a punch at Doyle and blood being drawn.  Doyle spoke about the fisticuffs in an interview this week:

“The business that we are in, sometimes we have to be hard on people or give our opinions,” Doyle explained. “That is what we did. As far as what went on, at first, it was wild. Then it became something I just want to forget about and move forward. … The last 48 hours have been nuts, and that’s it. It’s something that’s going to be over.”

With the proliferation of debating on sports television, it's honestly a surprise that something like this hasn't happened sooner… staged or not.
