Howie Long

Fox NFL Sunday is going to look a little different this coming Sunday.  For the first time since the network acquired NFL rights 20 years ago, Fox Sports is giving Howie Long a day off.  What's the occasion you ask?  For the first time, Long's sons will be playing against one another in an NFL game.  With the Rams facing the Bears in Week 12, it'll feature St. Louis DE Chris Long facing off against his brother, Bears rookie guard Kyle Long.  Via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune:

It's pretty cool for Fox to allow Long to watch both of his kids play against one another this week.  Long's one of the underrated analysts in the league because he keeps a level head and never gets as caught up in the hijinks of his compatriots.  The set should be plenty full with the likes of Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson, and Terry Bradshaw.  However, I wonder if this would present a great opportunity for one of Fox Sports 1's new analysts – anyone from Brian Urlacher to Randy Moss to to Scott Fujita to Donvon McNabb (as long as he doesn't cost NASCAR) could fill Long's slot.

Nevertheless, we can all look forward to Howie Long getting the Archie Manning treatment from the Fox cameras on Sunday while he anxiously watches his sons do battle from the stands.
