On Wednesday night in Baltimore, MASN threw up an on-screen graphic showing the Wins Above Replacement leaders among position players, including the Orioles' Chris Davis and Manny Machado.

Play-by-play voice Gary Thorne took the opportunity to bemoan advanced statistics, calling them "sabermatics" and admitting he is not a fan. Well, clearly.

Thorne then relucantly explained WAR to the viewers.

Sabermetrics are becoming more accepted among the baseball community and advanced stats are starting to show up on an increasing number of local television broadcasts.

It's one thing to be aware of it and admit you're not a fan. It's another to be so indifferent to the new way of thinking that you don't even know how the word "sabermetrics" is pronounced.
