Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed has replaced Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots on the red carpet at Sunday's Oscars ceremony, according to ESPN.. Reed will be conducting interviews for the Rich Eisen Podcast on, a role that Gronkowski was supposed to fill.

It's been a tumultous offseason for Gronkowski, who re-broke his forearm in New England's AFC divisional playoff win over Houston. After the season ended, Gronkowski has been pictured partying in Las Vegas and generally calling attention to himself off the football field (which has been a trend throughout his career).

Reed is an extremely charismatic player that has talked retirement in recent years, though that news seems to have been tabled this offseason as Reed enters free agency. Could this potentially be a open audition for a future career in TV like former teammate Ray Lewis? We'll see, but I bet Reed will be entertaining in his role on the red carpet, and hopefully he doesn't focus too much on the wardrobe choices of the celebrties.
