The Anaheim Ducks are closing in on clinching a playoff spot out in the Western Conference while the Dallas Stars are currently on the outside looking in, trying to play the role of spoiler as they desperately hang on to the outside chance of earning a playoff spot. Despite the fact the two teams have finished their season series with each other, that doesn't mean the trash talk has wrapped up.

Anaheim recently Tweeted out a rather detailed graphic examining the playoff picture in the West, including what it would take for the Ducks to clinch a playoff spot.

One of those details mentioned that the Ducks needed the Stars to lose to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. The Stars seemingly used this as inspiration, trouncing the Kings by a score of 5-1. Shortly after their victory, Dallas' official Twitter sent a Tweet mocking the Ducks with a little help from Dikembe Mutombo.

The Stars took an image from Mutumbo's GEICO ad and turned it into a meme, mocking the Ducks on how they would have to wait a day or two before they could celebrate clinching a playoff spot. The Tweet was completely unexpected and completely hilarious.

Tweets like the one above are becoming a regular occurrence in the NHL. The Los Angeles Kings initiated the trend of snarky Tweets during their playoff run last year and other teams have followed in their lead during the 2013 season. While the Kings tend to sometimes take things a bit too far or play up the big ego card a bit too often, it's refreshing seeing other teams try to give their accounts a distinctive voice that fans can be proud of.
