Former Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will be joining NBC Sports Radio as a guest host on Newy Scruggs' Voices of the Game show, which debuts on April 1st. Jones will be the guest host during the show's second hour every week on Tuesday as part of a rotating panel that will guest host alongside Scruggs during the second hour every day of the week.

Monday's guest host is currently unknown, but Wednesday's guest host is Chris Mannix, Thursday's is Bobby Valentine, and Friday's is Stan Van Gundy. Jones has the least (IE, none) broadcasting experience of the guest hosts, and the role seems like an odd one given that Jones seemed destined for a life of coaching as opposed to broadcasting once his career ended last October.

This seems like an odd, out of the box choice by NBC, but they've had some pretty big hits with analysts in recent years (Rodney Harrison among others). But when you consider NBC's lack of MLB rights, one has to wonder if this is just a hiring to get some buzz around Scruggs' program as opposed to really attempting to bolster their baseball coverage for the 2013 season. The format is interesting too as Jones will only appear once a week as part of this rotating panel of hosts.

I really don't know how this is going to work out for NBC due to Jones' novice status as a broadcaster, but he's certainly outspoken enough to create some buzz and perhaps some controversy as well, which is one of the biggest drawing points for sports talk radio in the year 2013.
