He's criticized social media for years. He even said "Tweet is for losers," in a video on his own NBA/Turner Sports-managed website two years ago. To anyone and everyone, Barkley has made it known that he hates Twitter, Facebook and any other form of social media.

Now comes word in an Adweek article that Barkley may finally cave and join Twitter. Granted, the account would be part of a Capital One advertising campaign that's currently airing throughout the NCAA Tournament on CBS/Turner, however, just getting Chuck on social media would be a tremendous coup.

Likely, the account would probably be sponsored and someone would tweet for him. I can't imagine Charles going on his smartphone and tweeting from the TNT Green Room while watching NBA games, although once he gets the hang of it, you never know. Does Charles even own a smartphone? Maybe he owns an old fangled flip phone. I digress.

There are plenty of fake Charles Barkley Twitter accounts, but getting the real Barkley on social media would render those fakes obsolete. Barkley has said he can't imagine anyone being interested in what he has to say, but once he learns he has a large legion of fans who hang on his every word on Inside the NBA, then he might tweet regularly. Or he can be like Megan Fox and decide that the whole idea is pointless.

But getting Charles on Twitter for however long he joins will be cherished. Let's hope this is the start of big things for Barkley on social media.
