Carrie Underwood tweeted that this would be coming and it was formally made official today by NBC – she will be singing an updated version of the Sunday Night Football intro song, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night."

SNF producer Fred Gaudelli commented in a national conference call with a mix of sports media, country music and entertainment reporters that Ms. Underwood was his only choice to replace the departed Faith Hill and in fact, was his first choice before Ms. Hill.

In an interesting part of the conference call, Gaudelli mentioned that for this year's open, various NFL players (whom have not been contacted as of yet) will sing some lyrics. Can you imagine Tom Brady, Eli Manning or even Adrian Peterson trying to sing lyrics? The comedic factor could be very high. NBC had better contact some players who have good singing voices otherwise we could be hearing a lot of autotune on the open.

But no matter, Carrie Underwood's fans are quite happy over the choice and it appears NBC is as well. She'll be appearing in a live production of "The Sound of Music" on the Peacock so she'll be all over the network

While Carrie will carry on the Sunday Night Football open tradition, we certainly won't forget Faith Hill's final SNF version from the 2012 season.
