Last month famed sportscaster Al Michaels was arrested in Southern California on suspicion of DUI.  Now Radar Online is reporting that Michaels will face formal DUI charges because of the arrest, with his first court date set for June 26th:

"Michaels, 68, was arrested on April 20 in Santa Monica, California after being stopped at a DUI checkpoint. The breathalyzer test registered .08, the legal limit in the state of California. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office officially filed the charges earlier this week."

TMZ, who broke the initial story of the DUI, reports that Michaels was charged with two misdemeanors counts of DUI.  Additionally, because of Michaels' lack of a record, it's very unlikely he would receive any kind of jail time.  Nevertheless, these are charges that the broadcaster and NBC should certainly take seriously.  Sunday Night Football has won several awards in the past week and also received positive publicity for adding Carrie Underwood to its lineup.  But it goes without saying – DUIs are serious business.  Michaels' arrest, charges and any potential discipline will cast a cloud over SNF and put NBC in a very difficult situation once the story reaches its conclusion considering how sports leagues are under scrutiny for the way they respond to DUIs.

We reached out to NBC to see if the network had any updated statements on the Michaels story.  The network declined further comment at this time.
