Showtime’s acclaimed The Franchise will return this season, and it will be following the Miami Marlins, who have had quite the start to their rebranding efforts. Last year, the featured team was the San Francisco Giants.

The Marlins are obviously a very polarizing franchise, with the potential for an absolute disasterous meltdown always surrounding the team with explosive personalities like Ozzie Guillen, Carlos Zambrano, and Logan Morrison on the team. Combine those guys with superstars like Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez, and “straight man” veterans signed this offseason like Mark Buerhle and Heath Bell, and this could be an absolutely fascinating show.

The above trailer actually shows footage of Guillen during his Fidel Castro comments, which led to him getting suspended for five games by the team. I don’t think the Showtime crowd could have been anymore pleased with that situation, as it immediately gives the show a hook for watchers.

This may not be Hard Knocks…. but it will be quite good this year.
