Former NFL Films President Steve Sabol passed away today at the age of 69 after a battle with brain cancer. All around the football world, people are paying tribute to the legend of Sabol, who along with his father Ed brought the sport into a new age with NFL Films.
All of us here at @nflnetwork are crestfallen and mourn the loss of the genius and iconoclast Steve Sabol. May he rest in peace.

NFL Films was a huge part of my childhood and made me the football fan I am today. From Football Follies to the yearly New Orleans Saints recap videos (where NFL Films would miraculously succeed in making me believe there was hope with Heath Shuler and Billy Joe Tolliver) to the 75th Anniversary collection, I absorbed it all. The iconic music, the amazing storytelling, and the dramatic imagery produced by Sabol at NFL Films brought the sport to the masses. The work of NFL Films is one of the central reasons football is now America's pastime. The NFL and sports fans everywhere owe Steve Sabol a debt of gratitude for making The Autumn Wind what it is today.
