The Pac 12 Networks have faced a battle to try to get wider distribution since launching earlier this year.  While that battle is ongoing, the networks have to face a unique issue their competitors in the industry have encountered.

A workers strike.

Employees that work Pac 12 games went on strike this weekend as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees seek standard wages and benefits. Hopefully this gets resolved soon, because you know that it’s Bowl Season and all, and there is going to be a massive amount of upcoming College Football Betting that needs to be done!  We don’t want this putting a damper on things.

“The union representing freelance technical employees who work on live sporting events for Pac-12 Networks went on strike Saturday.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees wants to establish area standard wages and benefits for the freelancers who work on the network’s telecasts.

About 100 union members picketed outside Galen Center, where Southern California hosted No. 14 Minnesota in a men’s basketball game. Picket lines also were set up at Arizona State, Oregon State, Oregon and Washington on Saturday where league games were being played. They carried signs reading, ‘Pac 12 Networks Unfair.'”

Variety has more details about the dispute involving the Pac 12 Networks using non-union labor at lower wages and there are statements from both sides positioning themselves publicly.  This is not part of a wider strategy as the IATSE is exclusively picketing against the Pac 12 Network.  As far as the effect on Pac 12 Network games, reports are there were less cameras were used at the USC-Minnesota game.  At the moment, that may be a minor inconvenience for viewers the Pac 12 Network does reach, but it’s a story worth following in case this strike continues to escalate.
