Warren Sapp has had a tumultuous time since trying to out Jeremy Shockey as the Saints BountyGate snitch.  There was his decreased presence on NFL Network airwaves, filing for bankruptcy, and news that he was dropped from Inside the NFL.  But in spite of his damaging allegations flung towards Shockey and public reprimand from the network, the NFL is sticking with Warren Sapp for another year.  Here’s the news from USA Today‘s Michael Hiestand…

NFL Network says Warren Sapp, recently dropped by Showtime’s Inside the NFL, will be back on NFLN for at least another year.

In revealing the move publicly for the first time, NFLN executive producer Eric Weinberger tells USA Today Sports that “this is probably going to be news to some blogs and articles out there who’ve said his time is up here, but we picked up an option year on his contract.” Sapp’s on-air duties, including working NFLN’s Sunday pregame show, will remain essentially the same.

I’m stunned.  Sapp’s media career was flaming out as fast as Tiki Barber, and then NFL Network inexplicably throws him a lifeline?  What happens if and when Jeremy Shockey actually does file suit against Warren Sapp for throwing his name out there as the whistleblower in the Saints bounty scandal?  Then what will NFL Network do, will they continue to endorse and stand by Sapp?  It’s not like Warren Sapp’s analysis makes up for the headaches he’s caused either.
