One of those few occasions you wouldn’t hardly trade anything in sports for is a Stanley Cup Playoffs Game 7 going into overtime with the great Doc Emrick on the call.  Luckily, we had that last night as the Capitals and Bruins played a thrilling Game 7 to end their 1st Round series.  Washington forward Joel Ward scored the game winner in the overtime period to send the Capitals into the second round with a 2-1 victory and the defending champs home.

That series winning goal sent another announcer, Capitals radio play by play man John Walton, into euphoric hysteria.  Here’s the audio clip:

“THEY SCORE!  THEY SCORE!  THEY SCORE!  IT’S OVER!! WARD ON A REBOUND!! GOOD MORNING, GOOD AFTERNOON, AND GOOD NIGHT BOSTON!!  THE KING IS DEAD!!  THERE WILL BE A NEW STANLEY CUP CHAMPION!! THE CAPITALS ARE STILL DANCING!!!”

About the only thing missing from that call is a reference to Paul Revere’s midnight ride or screaming “the slipper still fits!”  Walton is actually in his first year with the Capitals after spending nine years in Hershey calling AHL games, so it’s nice to see a young broadcaster get this chance to produce a memorable call.
