DICK VITALE JUST RE-SIGNED AT ESPN UNTIL 2015!!!  IT’S AWESOME BABY!!!  DIPSY DOO!!!  OHH THE DUKIES!!!  DICKIE V IS A ROLLS ROYCE DIAPER DANDY PTPER AT THE LEADER!!!  HE WILL BE 76 YEARS OLD AT THE END OF THIS DEAL!!!  ARE YOU SERIOUS???  ARE YOU SERIOUS???  HE’S GOING TO BE THE JOE PATERNO OF ANNOUNCING BABY!!  HE WANTS TO WORK UNTIL HE’S 90!!  THAT’S AWESOME BABY!!  HE MIGHT NOT EVEN KNOW HOW TO SPELL AWESOME BY THEN!!!  ONLY THE LOOMING APOCALYPSE OF 2012 WILL KEEP HIM OUT OF THE BROADCAST BOOTH!!!  NOT EVEN THE MAYANS CAN STOP DICKIE V, BABY!!!!

Ok, I think you get the picture.  Dick Vitale will stay with ESPN for another four years, which means more yelling and screaming, more nonsensical catchphrases, and more love for the Dukies.  Vitale seems like a great guy off the court and his energy and presence on ESPN has done a lot for college basketball over the years.  Dickie V is a Hall of Famer for a reason, but his gimmick has been getting tiresome for the past decade, and it’s exacerbated whenever Duke is at the top of the college basketball world.  Recently, the pairing with Dan Shulman has been good for Vitale because it reins him in just a little bit.  But now he’s going to be working well into the mid-teens?  When will ESPN see fit to finally incorporate some new voices into their top college basketball coverage?  Dan Dakich might be a solid choice as a future replacement, as long as they keep the dry erase board away from him.  Thankfully, just as I type this, FSU upset Duke with Dickie V in attendance!  In tribute, here’s a couple classic Dukie V clips where he randomly invokes the Dukies, including one where I believe he calls a young Mark Jones “Mike.”  Good times.
