Announcer Destroys Spittin’ Mad Tiger Woods

Evidently there was a big brouhaha this weekend in Dubai when Tiger Woods spit on the 12th green while slumping to a final round 75 after being in contention for the win much of the tournament.  The incident has caused an uproar across the globe with many outlets picking up on yet another sports spitting controversy.  We’re not as interested in that as much as the video which features Sky Sports announcer Ewen Murray eviscerating Woods for spitting on the green.  Video is unembeddable but you can view it at this link.  Here’s what Murray said…

“Disgusting, what he has just done there.  He’s got people coming up behind him and he’s just spat all over the green.  You look at his work ethics and he’s a credit to the game and he’s an inspiration to all of those who are trying to become professional golfers, but there are some parts of him that are just arrogant and petulant. Somebody now has to come on this green behind him and maybe putt over his spit. It does not get much lower than that.”

Murray continued the barrage against Tiger calling it an all-time low in his career (I guess he forgot the Perkins waitress) and Woods was fined by the European Tour today.  Tiger also tweeted the mandatory Twitter apology.  Of course, since it’s Tiger Woods, this has become a worldwide story.  As someone that has played golf, there is a certain etiquette associated with the game that spitting on the green, well, spits in the face of.  But, at the same time, I’m sure everyone will overreact to this story.  It is refreshing though to see someone in the golf media call Woods out and take him to task for his on-course behavior during a live broadcast.  Can you imagine what the ESPN or CBS golf teams would have to say about this on the air?  Jim Nantz would likely craft another piece of poetry with Tiger’s spit, much like he did with Tiger’s 69 at Augusta.
