Tiger Woods “Wins” AP Sports Story of the Year

Tiger Woods might have gone the entire year winless on the PGA Tour and lost his #1 ranking, but at least he won one thing this year.  He was able to beat out Drew Brees, LeBron James, Brett Favre and others to be named the Sports Story of the Year by the AP.  When that #1 ranking comes from your entire world crashing down, I’m not sure it classifies as a “win” but perhaps it’s the boost he needs going into 2011.  Tiger’s titanic fall from the top is certainly worthy of the number one slot this year.  As a lifelong Saints fan though, I have to say I’m a little disappointed… I really wanted that AP trophy to cap off the year.  You can view the full list and details at the link below. Here’s the AP Top 10.

1) Tiger Woods
2) Saints Win Super Bowl
3) NBA Free Agency
4) World Cup
5) SF Giants Win World Series
6) NFL Concussions
7) Jimmie Johnson
8) Brett Favre
9) UConn Women’s Basketball
10) John Wooden Dies

Honestly, I can’t believe Jay Mariotti’s fall from grace, the Ballad of Ines Sainz, Matt Millen and Joe Theismann sharing a booth, Joe Morgan’s dismissal, the T Ocho Show, or Cigar Guy didn’t make the cut.  Especially Cigar Guy, that dude is a legend.  C’mon AP!
