The Cam Newton saga is serious stuff and apparently the University of Alabama is not going to let some little PA announcer make light of it [via ESPN]:

The University of Alabama has fired an employee who played songs aimed at Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton before the Iron Bowl. University spokeswoman Debbie Lane said Monday that the part-time staffer was fired for the unauthorized songs.

“Take the Money and Run” and “Son of a Preacher Man” were played while Newton and the Tigers warmed up.

Debbie Lane explained the firing further [via Tuscaloosa News]:

“Our processes require that all music and videos played in the stadium prior to and during every game be carefully scripted and approved by a senior administrator in the Athletics Department,” Lane wrote in an e-mail. “The former staff member deviated from the script that had been approved for the game with Auburn, and the University took steps to immediately terminate his contract.”

Luckily, for the sake of humor, I’ve heard it is in the script to play “Heads Will Roll” [Roll Tide, roll – Remix] when a fired staffer leaves the stadium. Also, the following clip loops on the jumbotron:
