Welcome to the Week 14 MNF Live-Blog. Let me say that this is the game I’ve been dreading since the schedule was released so hopefully I can last the whole way. If you decide to skip out on “Mike Vick Fest 2” I won’t be mad, but if you keep me company I’ll owe you one.

Spread: Saints -4.5, O/U 44

I’ll be back around 7ish for Monday Night Countdown, and hopefully I’ll see you then.

Stu Scott is gone again and I’m beginning to think something’s up. He was supposed to be missing due to an appendectomy, but how long does that put you out for. Two weeks at most right?

Great….more Pats highlights.

Bill Parcells tries to blame Muhammad Ali for players talking trash before games. Mort quickly points out that most players today weren’t alive when Ali was in his prime. Good exchange.

Wow Kyle Orton is starting for the Bears next Monday? Greaaaat. Another great live-blog. Arthur Blank is on the set with Sal Pal now. They kicked out Emmitt and Steve for this interview, which makes me sad. I need more Emmitt time.

I love how every report from Mort is that Bush is out, but every time they refer to it it turns to “likely”.

“Watch his subtle shoulder shifts.”- Steve Young on Drew Brees

Say that five times fast.

Oh god damn….American Idoler Blake Lewis is the music for tonight’s game? What did I do to deserve this?

“I’m not authorized to use the word booyah, but I can pick the Saints for Stu.”- Sal Pal

Game time. Mike Vick time….Tony plans wax ecstatic enough to drive me crazy.

“I’m all lathered up for this one Mike. It’s going to be a throw ball game.”- Ron Jaworski

Jaws’ bathwater is not something I ever want to think about.

Okay here’s the challenge via Chris at Mister Irrelevant. As soon as the kickoff happens I’m going to try and keep track off how many times the name Vick is mentioned. That should keep me entertained.

Kickoff time. Falcons ball at the 20…..here comes Chris Redman.

“He’s started as many games at Quarterback in the past four years as Hilary Clinton has.”- Tony Kornheiser

Ugh.

Quick hitter to Norwood for six. Redman to Jenkins picks up 11 and a first down. Redman goes down with a sack and loses four. Crumpler catches two passes but both are short of the marker. Falcons punt. Saints ball at their own nine.

“I’m ready to play “VICKO” Bingo!” (Via Chris)

Good I’m glad someone’s with me. End around for about 12 nets the Saints a first down. Brees to Patten for 9 yards, and Carney is short of the first down on 3rd down. Payton is going for it….

Sneak, and it doesn’t look like they’ve got it. Nope….no good. Jaws and Tony love him for it, I think he’s an idiot. That’s just me though. Falcons ball at the Saints’ 33.

4 yard run on first down for the Falcons is followed by a slant to Roddy White who gets blasted by Kaseviharn. Jaws is snubbed by Thomas after his introductions and he seems upset.

4th down and long, but there’s a challenge from Bobby Petrino on an incomplete pass. Ruling stands. Whoa Jaws breaks out some beam me up Scotty technology to illustrate the drop. Falcons punt. Fair catch at the 10.

Stecker on the screen for eight, Drop by Henderson on a second down slant, and a one yard pass to Stecker and it’ll be 4th down and a yard. Sean Payton is thinking about going for it. Crazy…..okay he’s punting. Good lord. Jennings on the return and he runs about 40 yards for 4. God this game is terrible.

Run for nothing, Run for nothing, Crumpler drop. Great offense Petrino. Koenen gets an amazing bounce and it’s out at the one. Great punt.

Colston picks up a first on the quick hitter nets 11. Brees hit and throws it into the ground to start the next set of downs, Colston for 5 on another slant, WR Screen to Patten gets the Saints 21 and a first down.

“One guy to beat!”- Mike Tirico not noticing the two safeties behind the corner.

Huge pass from Brees to Billy Miller for 36 and the Saints are in business.

TOUCHDOWN SAINTS! Brees to Patten on the fade for 25 yards.

7-0 New Orleans.

“And that’ll teach the Falcons not to punt it down to the one. They went down the field sort of like the Patriots occasionally do.”- Tony Kornheiser

Exactly like the Patriots Tony.

Who’s ready to DUEL?! Not me… At least Mike Brownoser has stopped bringing Golic along on his escapades up the corporate ladder. The irony is that Golic is the one that comes out looking ahead… (Via Anon)

I don’t know if a week long show can get canceled, but this would be the one.

Falcons ball from the twenty. First down and Chris Redman is blasted by Kraft…..the Saints are blitzing every down. 2 and 10…..complete to Robinson for maybe 3. Whoa! Redman to Robinson for 41 yards!!! How about that…nice double move. Hey and they beat Jason David on the play. Good to see you!

TOUCHDOWN FALCONS! Redman to Roddy White on the exact same play that the Saints scored on.

7-7.

Mike Vick Count: 1 (After Roddy White displays a “Free Mike Vick” shirt.

Make that 2….Tirico mentions him again.

“You don’t have to put him Canton, Jaws.”- Tony Kornheiser
“A little bit later we’ll discuss how to build a Football team.”- Jaws

Ha…here we go. I’m with Tony here. Redman throws one good pass and Jaws is trying to name him the future QB. Just dumb.

Meanwhile the Saints take the ball to midfield as the first quarter comes to and end. 7-7 tie.

Patten picks up another twenty to start the quarter followed by an incomplete pass to Colston. 2nd and 10. Wow….Colston gets nailed by Hall and it doesn’t even faze him. 3rd and 4….

“And Brady’s throw is complete for the first down and David Patten in the Red Zone.”- Mike Tirico

That’s not a typo….he said Brady. If you work for ESPN you’re required to mention him at least once a game. A couple of Stecker runs make it 3rd and 1 at the 11 yard line. Stecker gets 3.

“Since he was body surfing like a concert mosh pit across offensive linemen.”- Mike Tirico
“Ah what?”- Jaws
“Don’t date yourself.”- TK

Brees tries a fade to Patten and it’s incomplete. The ex-Patriot is down now (see I can do it too MNF!) 2nd and Goal….Brees’ throw is batted down. Brees hits Johnson in the numbers and he drops it….FG attempt for Mare….

10-7 Saints.

Oooh Arthur Blank is our MNF Guest tonight! Greaaaaaat.

Mike Vick Count: 4

Pitch to Norwood gets 8 but there’s a few flags on the field….holding on Roddy White. Arthur Blank is in the booth.

Mike Vick Count: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

“I believe in second chances and I hope Jerious gets around the edge here.”- Arthur Blank

Way to stay on topic. And a fried chicken reference….very nice you ass (that video will be on the Sporting Blog tomorrow morning)!

Meanwhile the Falcons are going to be punting. Nothing exciting is happening on the field so I’m just counting Vick mentions.

First down Saints at their own 33 and Brees hits Colston near midfield. Wow great job by Brees to scramble and hit Johnson over the middle. EJ gets nailed but he hangs on. Colston for 4 yards…..2 minute warning.

Brees to Patten on the quick hitter and it’ll be 3rd and 3….Brees to Patten again for 17 and Saints call timeout. Wow Brees is 21-27 for 235 yards and a TD and they only lead by 3.

Draw on first gets nothing…..

TOUCHDOWN SAINTS!!! Brees to Colston! Great pass right up the middle.

17-7 Saints.

“The first drive was 99 and that one was 94, and Suzy is capped off by Colston.”- Mike Tirico

Ewww. Come on Mike…..Nightmare Fuel.

Redman hits Jenkins for a first, and hits him again for an eight yarder. Timeout Falcons…ball on their own 44. Redman to Jenkins again for the first down and he gets out of bounds. 27 seconds left….

Jenkins again with the catch and the Falcons don’t use their timeout. They clock it at 10 seconds. Ball at NO’s 40. Incomplete…..6 seconds left in the half.

WOW! Redman throws to Roddy White deep!!! And he’s down at the one….the half is over. I guess it was a good idea, but that was a pretty crappy result.

17-7 Saints at the Half.
